RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
SEPTEMBER 18, 2008 6-8pm

The Pioneer Craft House is holding an Open House and rededication ceremony on Sept 18, 2008, at 3300 South 500 East, from 6 pm - 8 pm. The Program will consist of a Ribbon-cutting Ceremony, craft teachers demonstrating their skills and enrolling students for fall classes, a Silent Auction of items made by teachers, "Raku" Firing Demonstration in which various dignitaries will prepare an imprint of their hand and signature on a plaque or vessel, then fire the item, making it available for posterity! Our teachers will be there demonstrating weaving, drawing and mosaic tile, showing handmade wood flutes, and our jewlery classes will be in progress so you can take a peek. A Dutch Oven meal will be available, as well as music provided by local groups.










Educator's Workshop
Teaching Elementary Clay


Saturday, September 27th Clay Arts Utah will be conducting a pottery workshop aimed at elementary school teachers to show them basic techniques and elementary clay projects. In addition, CAU members will be available to visit to local elementary schools to show the teachers how to use the kilns in their schools.
Teachers will gain a basic knowledge of clay; what it is, where it comes from, and how it can be used. There will be demonstrations of age appropriate projects using coil, pinch, slab and wheel techniques. We will discuss firing techniques and finishing options such as glazing, staining, and alternative firings. Finally, teachers will be given a notebook with several lesson plans including instructions, material lists, and photos of completed projects.

at Pioneer Craft House - 500 E. 3271 So. - South Salt Lake
The workshop and in-school kiln assistance is Free to teachers and includes clay and basic supplies to get started teaching clay! Elementary teachers interested in attending should RSVP to Randi Lile at rlile@hotmail.com or 801-815-4538.
